Jack Law is the managing partner of Hui Zhong (Shenzhen) Law Firm and specializes in international dispute resolution.
Mr. Law has worked in the PRC judiciary and U.S. courts for several years, and has a thorough understanding of legal practice in China and common law countries. Cooperating closely for years with lawyers in the United States, the United Kingdom and Hong Kong, his team can provide one-stop legal services for companies to resolve cross-border litigation and arbitration.
Mr. Law has accumulated rich experience in handling complex and high-profile litigations and arbitrations related to foreign-related contracts and shareholder disputes, and has successfully resolved cross-border disputes for a large number of PRC and foreign companies through negotiation, arbitration and litigation procedures. For example, he represented a Hong Kong listed company to handle a dispute arising from joint venture and share transfer agreements against a major State-Owned Enterprise in PRC arbitration institution, and successfully prompted the opposing party to settle and pay entire transfer price. He represented a PRC listed company in the case relating to the Recognition of U.S. arbitration award proceedings before PRC courts against Toshiba Corporation, and successfully forced the opposing party to settle. He also helped an U.S. company to regain control over its PRC joint venture.

Cross-border Litigation
▪ Representing a US listed company to handle the dispute over corporate control before PRC courts, innovatively applying for behavior preservation before the PRC courts by drawing experience from the common law’s Injunction practice, and ultimately successfully convincing the judge to grant the behavior preservation measures against the old management; served as the global coordinating lawyer for coordinating the cases involving the listed company and its domestic and foreign subsidiaries to be handled in the courts of the British Virgin Islands, the Hong Kong International Arbitration Center, the Hong Kong courts, and Mainland China courts.
▪ Represented a PRC listed company to apply for non-recognition and non-enforcement of the Arbitration Award of American Arbitration Association in PRC courts, and coordinated with U.S. lawyers and Hong Kong barristers to prepare expert opinions on foreign law. The disputed amount is more than USD $100 million, and the settlement amount is less than 20% of the disputed amount.
▪ Represented a Hong Kong company to handle an equity dispute of its listed PRC companies in PRC courts. The disputed amount is about RMB 3 billion.
▪ Represented a Hong Kong company to file a lawsuit related to malicious collusion between Hong Kong company controllers and a PRC company and transfer assets. The disputed amount is about RMB 220 million.
▪ Represented a subsidiary of EU’s largest chain supermarket in handling its contract disputes against its PRC suppliers in PRC courts, and working with HK solicitors to handle an arbitration in Hong Kong arising from the same disputes.
▪ Represented a Hong Kong Company to deal with warehousing contract disputes against a well-known logistics Hong Kong company governed by Hong Kong Law in PRC courts.
▪ Represented a Hungary company in handling litigation related to the dispute over ownership of goods in PRC courts, and assisted in obtaining ownership of the goods and returning them to Hungary successfully.

▪ Represented a world-leading pharmaceutical company in an arbitration before Hong Kong International Arbitration Center (“HKIAC”) over its equity transfer and capital increase agreement dispute with the acquired company, with a disputed amount of approximately RMB 100 million.
▪ Represented a top Chinese military enterprise in an HKIAC arbitration over its equity repurchase dispute with the investors, with a disputed amount of over US$10 million.
▪ Represented a Cayman company before HKIAC in its disputes with a foreign investment company and disputes between the company’s actual controllers about equity dilution and infringement of shareholders’ rights.
▪ Represented a domestic investment fund in an HKIAC arbitration over investment agreement disputes with a Hong Kong listed company and its actual controller.
▪ Represented a BVI company in an HKIAC arbitration concerning share repurchase disputes with a Cayman company, and coordinated the handling of a BVI winding-up case and a Hong Kong anti-suit injunction case.
▪ Represented a PRC company in an arbitration case related to financial machine sales contract dispute against Japan OKI’s subsidiaries before Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (“SCIA”). The disputed amount is approximately RMB 2 billion.
▪ Represented a Chinese investment fund to initiate an arbitration against a U.S. entity before SCIA, and coordinated with American lawyers to enforce Chinese arbitration awards in the U.S.
▪ Successfully defended a leading international retailer in an arbitration case arising from a construction lease disputes before SCIA. The claimant’s overall claims were denied eventually.
▪ Represented a PRC investment fund to file an arbitration in China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (“CIETAC”) against U.S. entities, and working with U.S. lawyers to recognize and enforce PRC Arbitral Award in U.S.
▪ Represented a well-known Hong Kong beverage company in its arbitration before the CIETAC, which involved disputes over the right to use a nationally well-known trademark.
